The Smântănel cake (Tort Smântănel) is a traditional Romanian dessert. It's especially popular in Moldovan and Eastern European households. The name comes from "smântână", which means sour cream in Romanian, and the cake is known for its soft, layered sheets and creamy, tangy filling.

Layers (Sheets):
2 eggs
200g sugar
100ml milk
100g melted butter
1 tsp baking soda (with a little vinegar)
About 500g flour (just enough to form a soft dough)
Cream:
800g sour cream (20–25% fat)
150g powdered sugar
1 packet vanilla sugar
Instructions:
Mix ingredients into a soft dough, divide into 8–10 balls.
Roll each into a thin sheet and bake on the back of a tray at 180°C (5–7 min each).
Mix sour cream with sugar until smooth and fluffy.
Layer: sheet – cream – sheet – cream...
Chill for 12–24 hours to soften completely.
